Session 5- Week 2- Year 5

Time Line Wrap Up

This week the heroes continued learning about different African American Heroes and their accomplishments!

  • Jackie Robinson - 1947 first African American MLB Player

  • Alma Woodsey Thomas- 1972 First African American Women to hold a Solo Art Exhibition at the Whitney Museum of Art in New York City

  • Oprah Winfrey - 1986 “The Oprah Winfrey Show” was the first aired African American Woman to have our own talk show & more

  • Dr. Mae Jemison - 1992 the first African American Woman to go into space

After the heroes were introduced and had their discussion on Jack Robinson, they had a team builder to complete before starting their day off to promote team work like Jackie did. They had to bring the ball with out using their hands to the hula hoop. They used encourage words and had many laughs!

The heroes completed a art inspired by Alma Thomas’s style of art. Check out their focus and creativity.

The heroes had a craft added during brain aerobics that represented Dr. Mae Jemison and her accomplishments!

To wrap up the week on Friday the heroes completed an experiment to see which chips had the most grease: regular lay, kettle cooked, or baked. They voted that the kettle cooked chips had more oil on them based on the paper towel outcome and observation. They then were each given a piece of paper to build to a bag/contraption that would hold chips. Once they completed that challenge they all enjoyed a potato chip snack together and they were able to all share a chip snack!
