Spark Blog Session 1- Week 2- Year 5

Ninja Training

We began our “Ninja Training” in the studio this week so the heroes can be ready for us to start introducing the shelves that have been covered since day one. The week consisted of:

  • Zen Bell Practice (stop, look, & listen)- the heroes voted on a silly word that represents when they are available to go and follow through with whatever it is after the bell is rung so they know we are done with the announcement or instruction. Ask you hero what the magic word is!

  • Rolling/Unrolling a rug while using their name tag to mark their work space!

  • Individual snack routine (while in brain aerobics they will have the freedom to go grab their snack as long a spot is available with a 5 minute timer)

  • Walking Feet inside the studio

  • Team builders (blanket name game & how many pom poms can you get using only chop sticks)

  • Outside play

  • Tornado drill practice- We discussed how the hallway is our safe space for in case of a weather emergency and KPLC informs us it is time for us to go in our safe place. The heroes were able to share where their safe space is at home as well.

The heroes were all given a “Ninja” headband to decorate and then they took squad photos wearing them. Check out these ninja poses!

This is a glimpse into the stations we did for a few days this week for ninja training! They worked hard on rolling/unrolling rugs, using their name tags, snack procedure, fine motor practice using varies materials, whisper voices while playing, Zen bell practice, and having to communicate with their squad/studio mates.

This week we were able to discuss the guard rails for climbing our trees! They all gathered around the trees to discuss what guard rails we needed to put into place before we were available to climb! River and Calum demonstrated different strategies to get in/out of the trees. Ask your heroes what the guard rails are for climbing the trees at the studio!

The blanket name game is always a fun team builder to see who remembers who, the goal is to say the other person’s name before they say yours! The other team builder was how many poms can you put into your red bucket in 30 seconds, by only using the chopsticks. Each person on each squad was able to have a turn and then we tallied up the totals and discussed the winners! Not one hero gave up during the challenge even though it was challenging for some. We would call that determination!

This week we celebrated Savannah and Ameile’s birthday!
