Session 3- Week 2- Year 5

What do Animals do in the Winter?

This week the heroes learned about adapting, migrating, and hibernating. Through out the week we would say “Spark Heroes go into hibernation mode the snow is coming.” They would then slowly pretend to be in a deep sleep! They also would would run in place to show migration and puff up their cheeks to show adapting. They also learned about what animals live above and below the snow. Check out the hands on activities and games that happened this week!

Hibernating Spark Heroes keeping warm at the carpet!

The Spark Heroes read “Over and Under the Snow” then completed a activity where they had to cut the animals and then pasted them in the their proper home either above the snow or below the snow.

The heroes worked with their squads to create a hibernation den for the bears to keep warm in their deep sleep!

Oh Christmas Tree

This weeks process art we had out for the heroes to complete during brain aerobics consisted of a silhouette of a Christmas tree on card stock, clothes pins, pom poms, paint, and a star sticker. They were presented the art on Monday and had the opportunity to complete it throughout the week.

  1. Grab a tree.

  2. Write your name on the paper .

  3. Choose your colors and using the clothes pin dab dots on your tree to make ornaments until satisfied and please do not mix the paint.

  4. Place a star sticker on the top

  5. Place on the drying rack to dry

Mrs. Sarah presented to the heroes how to complete this art before they were available to do so.

Hand Writing Boot Camp

The heroes have been attending hand writing boot camp weekly. We have adjusted and tested many ways to best support them on their hand writing journey. Over the last year we have recognized that the heroes were rushing through their handwriting practice books and not following the correct form by starting at the top and so on. So we have began handwriting bootcamp weekly to help them grow and have the proper muscle memory as they are writing. Each week we will introduce the proper form of 2-4 letters and they will have to practice those letters daily by a guide as a special goal for them to earn their pennies! Once we see consistency from the individual hero we will give them freedom to start back up in their handwriting books. We encourage all parents if your child is writing at home to make sure they are starting at the top of the page and remind them that writing does not have to be a race or a rushed process, because when we take our time that is when we show our best work/efforts!

Happy Birthday to you Calum!
